Maybe I'm the crazy one, but for some reason I believe that just might be a good thing. I was just reading an article on CNN about how strict the US Immigration laws are and how we need to be more lax about them. The author went on to point out how a hard working woman from Africa wouldn't be able to improve her live, but some idiot slacker in the US had it made. I got to thinking of this and came to two conclusions:
1) This moron watches too much US reality TV.
2) We, as Americans, need to start looking inward much more than outward.
It's been my experience in life that, good or bad, the choices we make have more to do with how we end up than where we were born. We all like to think we've made the best choices for ourselves, but sometimes we have to bite a bullet and either give up what we truly want, or face some consequences for which we did not prepare. But that's life. We all dream big when we're young, but as we grow and realize our limitations, we come to know what we are truly capable of and adhere to that.
18 years ago, I was a naive, irresponsible, computer geek with aspirations of becoming the next big game designer. But the choices that I made, based upon different information and my foolishness I had to change my path in life. Fortunately for me, as one door has closed another has opened and I have been able to take full advantage of that. I'm not making as much as I was 3 years ago, but I am finally starting to see the light again.
I honestly believe that there is still the misconception in the world that you can be anything or do anything in the U.S. And though it is true there are more options here than in some developing countries, you still have to ask the question, why come here and not develop where you are. One of the common reasons, no money. Do you think the US was swarming with billions of dollars in cash before the Europeans came here. NO. European Immigrants came here with little to no money and carved out a hard tough life here and most never made a dime.
I guess I just get tired of everyone talking about how much better things are here. Well, if you don't like it where you are, change it!!! Why does the US have to come in and make things better for you. Make it better for yourself. You don't see people in the US running up to China or Canada, etc. Oh , I'm poor and I need things that I just can't get will you give them to me. It doesn't work like that and it shouldn't. The 99% of Americans with the 5% of the wealth can't afford to take care of the rest of the world and In a way, we should quit trying. We need to take care of our schools, our infrastructure and our economy before we worry about
You always here the sob stories about the 16 year old in Darfur that was raped and now she's a disgrace to her family and no one wants here because she's not a virgin. That's not a US problem that's a Darfur problem. There are roughly 90,000 rapes per year in the US..Where is the outcry for these women.
That's enough for now...
